Debate - How many people does it take to create a headline?

Come here..... ssshhhh ..... do you know something? It can take less than 200 people, mmhmm.... less than 200 people, to create a soundbite, to create a view that newspapers, the BBC, ITV, Sky and every other media company will carry and publicise.

So if thats the case... hang on... let me get my calculator here.  Two.....hundred...... there.....divided by .....six...ty.....million......

Hmm.  My calculator doesn't even register how small a percentage that is!!!

Yet we hear that "67 percent of people do their own dental work" and "17 percent of the population believe Elvis is alive and married to Shergar (also alive still)"

But if the people asked are an insignificant number, then wouldn't it make sense that the results are...well.... rubbish really?

We think so.  So next time you read a headline, ask yourself this.  Who says so?  And how many say so?

It's our view that large audiences should be canvassed, that a decent sized population should have a view not just the few.  And that headlines should be fact not distortions.  What do you think?
